Where was coffee discovered?

Coffee is a drink made from coffee beans. There are several theories about the origin of coffee, but it is generally believed to have been discovered in Ethiopia.

The stage is the 9th century, in the Kaffa region of Ethiopia. One day, a shepherd named Kaldi noticed that his sheep had become active. To find out why, he tried chewing the red fruit the sheep had been eating. Immediately, he felt cheerful, and he reported this discovery to the monks. The monks refused to use the fruit, throwing it into the fire. However, a captivating aroma wafted through the air. The beans were scraped from the embers and dissolved in boiling water. This is believed to be the world's first coffee. The name coffee is derived from the Kaffa region, and Kaldi, which is often used as the name for coffee shops around the world, originates from the name of the shepherd who discovered coffee.

Coffee cultivation spread on the Arabian Peninsula, and by the 15th century, coffee had spread to the Middle East and North Africa via the port city of Mocha in Yemen, and from there to Europe and other regions. Although coffee was discovered in Ethiopia, Mocha is considered the birthplace of coffee because coffee spread throughout the world from this port city.

In the 17th century, Dutch and British merchants attempted to grow coffee by planting coffee trees, and afterwards, coffee spread around the world. The time when it was introduced to Japan is not known exactly. It probably came during the Edo period."
